The following policy has been developed to facilitate the scheduling of students from non\u2010Canadian schools.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Students must be from an international medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>The maximum duration of electives that may be carried out at Queen\u2019s University is 4 weeks. Please note that all electives are two weeks.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Prior to enrolment in an elective, a student will normally be required to have completed his\/her core clinical clerkship rotation in the discipline for which they have applied.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Students, who are accepted for an elective, will be able to participate in supervised patient care activities.<\/li><li>Non-Canadian residents are responsible for obtaining:<ul><li>a Canadian Immigration medical exam before entry into the country;<\/li><li>the appropriate visa from the Canadian Consulate in the country of study for entry into Canada, if necessary.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Any student studying at the non\u2010Canadian W.H.O. The home school\u2019s Elective Office must notify Queen\u2019s MD Program Electives Office via email to <a href=\"mailto:medelect@queensu.ca\">medelect@queensu.ca<\/a> that an elective placement has been approved for cancellation.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>HOST SCHOOL ELECTIVE CANCELLATION PROCESS<\/strong><\/p><p>While extremely rare, should a confirmed\/accepted elective be cancelled by Queen\u2019s University (via site or preceptor) due to unforeseen\/mitigating circumstances, a student must complete the following steps:<\/p><ol><li>Immediately notify Queen\u2019s MD Program Electives Office (<a href=\"mailto:medelect@queensu.ca\">medelect@queensu.ca<\/a>) and copy\/notify your home school Elective Office<\/li><li>Student must provide consent if they desire Queen\u2019s MD Program to find an alternative elective, with the understanding that a student must proceed with the offered alternative. All attempts to find a reasonable placement will be made, however since this is highly dependent on capacity, students must be prepared to be flexible.
