ABOUT

Our goal is to make applying for Visiting Elective opportunities easy for students from Canada and around the world.

Re-Shaping Visiting Electives Since 2014

The Portal was launched in 2014 in response to the significant concerns expressed by both the Canadian Federation of Medical Students and the AFMC Standing Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education regarding the complexity and inconvenience medical students face when applying for electives in Canada. See how the AFMC Student Portal re-shaped the way Canadian medical schools manage visiting electives.

AFMC

The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada

AFMC is the academic partnership of Canada’s faculties of medicine. Through our collective leadership, expertise and advocacy, we will achieve excellence in education, research and care for the health of all Canadians.

National Report

The AFMC Student Portal Data on Visiting Electives: National Report is a public document released annually in the first quarter of the year. The report captures information on the application and placement activities across all 17 Canadian medical schools for visiting students as well as home school students at a given host institution (i.e. schools accepting applications for visiting electives through the Portal).
