AFMC is happy to report that the recent upgrades to the Student Portal are yielding positive results for learners across the country.
To date, we have completed eight rounds of matching using the new capacity-based model. Applications have increased almost sixfold over last year and there has been a 24% increase in placements. Eighty-nine percent of learners have received an offer, with this rate increasing to 99% for learners who applied for more than one round. We are no longer experiencing issues with the software platform.
AFMC continues to monitor the Student Portal and related processes very closely.
In recent days, we have received an increase in feedback regarding access to electives in high-demand rotations. Unfortunately, this is a perennial issue that relates back to the capacity of schools to deliver electives in specific areas at specific times; it is not related to the new capacity-based model. While AFMC is working to improve the Student Portal experience, we are unable to expand capacity within each individual school.
AFMC encourages learners to submit up to 12 applications in a variety of areas, to increase their likelihood of receiving an elective offer. Applying for more than one round also dramatically increases a learner’s odds.
AFMC also invites learners and other interested members of the academic community to save the date for our inaugural online discussion series, called Learner Connect, on the evening of September 24, 2025. We will kick off this series with a presentation and discussion about the Student Portal. Stay tuned for more information.
Thank you for your ongoing patience and feedback as we continue to optimize the Student Portal and enhance national learner resources across the board.
